Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Education in collaboration
with Punjab State Council of Science & Technology,
Chandigarh and Hara Punjab Khara Samaj celebrated World
Environment Day with full enthusiasm. The Day commenced with
an expert talk by University Pro Chancellor, Ms. Tejinder
Kaur who is also the CEO of Hara Punjab Khara Samaj, an NGO
working for environmental protection. She enlightened the
students and teaching fraternity with varied environmental issues
prevailing in the society. She encouraged the youngsters about
their roles in bringing a change in the society and motivated
them to grow more trees so as to build a greener society. She
also inaugurated the tree plantation and distribution of saplings
drives. University Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shalini
Gupta said that in order to protect and save our
environment we have to adopt ‘Green Mantra’ which means not
only growing maximum green plants but protect them also. Small
initiatives like using less paper, promoting car pooling, use of public
transport, turning off taps and lights and absolute reduction
of plastic use can really help in protecting our environment.
Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh appreciated the initiative taken by the
university. Dr. Sangeeta, Assistant Professor,
Faculty of Sociology gave a lecture on ‘Importance of
Medicinal Plants’. She acquainted the students with medicinal
value of varied plants. While in an interactive session, she
elaborated the usage of domestic plants for health and
cosmetics purposes. The celebrations proceeded with a
multitude of activities by the students’ viz. slogan writing,
poster making and skit presentation on the theme. The
students also participated in tree plantation drive, followed by
a banner campaign in the neighbouring villages of Saunti
and Salani. The day ended with presentation of vote of thanks
by Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Director Faculty of Education. She
appreciated the endeavour of all staff members and students for
organizing the event and furthering the vision of Desh Bhagat University
in building a greener and cleaner environment.
