Guest Lecture on ‘Panchayti Raj’ in Best University in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University

In top llb colleges in chandigarh Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law organized a guest lecture on ‘Working of Panchayati Raj Laws in the State of Punjab’ to enhance the knowledge of the students. The lecture was attended by all the students of law classes - LLB, LLM, B.A LLB .


While giving details Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that Prof. Irvinder Pal Singh Jodhka from State Institute of Rural Development, Punjab was the Guest speaker. He elaborated the salient provisions and practical working of the Panchayti Raj Act, The Village Common Lands Regulation Act and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in detail.  He also discussed about the role of Gram Sabha , other Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRIs), i.e.,


Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samities and Zila Parishads as Local Self Government and as organs of rural development and public welfare. He highlighted the recent emergence of Gram Panchayts as employers under the MGNREGA scheme and the recent trend of making population-based grants available to the Gram Panchayts subsequent to the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission of India. The measures being taken regarding the promotion of transparency in the working of PRIs were also discussed.


Dr. Inderpreert Kaur (HoD Faculty of Law) informed that the lecture was followed by an inter-active session and students asked numerous questions on the topic which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction. A street play regarding drug-addiction was also performed by the students.


Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh thanked the guest speaker for sparing valuable time and sharing his views with the students. Among others, Satish Kumar and Law faculty members were present on the occasion.

Legal Awareness Drive on E-Court System By Desh Bhagat University

In the best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University faculty of law College in Punjab, organized a legal awareness camp. The camp was arranged in Govt. Sr. Secondary School Village Lohar Majra Kalan with the active assistance of Gram Panchayat and the School Staff.


While giving details Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that the main objective of the camp was to create awareness amongst the public at large about the functioning of the E-Courts system and fundamental rights of a person.


During the camp, Dr. Inderpreet Kaur (HoD, Faculty of law College in Punjab, DBU) gave a lecture on E-Court and the rights of a common man. On the other side Law Students under the guidance of their teachers discussed legal provisions regarding other topics of public concern including consumer protection, female Foeticide, domestic violence against women, women empowerment, public interest litigation.



Harbhajan Singh Jallowal, a Para-legal Volunteer with the District Legal Services Authority, Fatehgarh Sahib elaborated the provisions regarding free legal aid to the needy persons and also narrated the working of Alternative Dispute Resolution System in the district. Apart from the Head of the Law Department, other members and the faculty of Desh Bhagat law College in Punjab, namely, Manpreet Kaur, Prabhjot Kaur, Ravneet Kaur and Satish Kumar were also present and responded to the enquiries of the audience.



Those present included Sarpanches S. Mujand Singh Loharmajra Kalan, S. Lakhbir Singh Jallowal and S. Mohan Singh Sirajmajra, Panchayat members, students and staff of the school, Anganwari Workers Joginder Kaur and Surinder Kaur, Retired Supervisor Sarabjit Kaur and local villagers.


Ms. Vanita, the school in charge welcomed the University team and S. Swaran Singh, teacher, stressed the need and utility of such camps for creation of much-required legal literacy amongst the masses.


S. Jagwinder Singh Grewal, also a teacher, summed up the proceedings and narrated various social evils and efficacy of legal provisions in tackling the same.



The students also had an interactive session with the community. The camp concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Mr. Satish Kumar.

Desh Bhagat University Organises Patent Awareness Workshop

Ranked in top two for  Best university in Punjab ranking in private sector, (NIRF Ranking, MHRD- govt. of India) Desh Bhagat University’s Patent Information Centre organized a workshop on Patent Awareness. Among top LLB colleges in punjab the event was graced by Industrialists from Ludhiana, Mandi Gobindgarh, Amargarh, Amloh, Rajpura and Experts from TIFAC DST Govt of India, students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering and other faculties as well who participated in it.


The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. He said that objective of the event is to teach our students about the various facets of intellectual property, like patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright etc. which play a major role in encouraging innovation and creativity.

 The chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Vinod Vashist (President, All India Steel Rolling Association) who shared his views on Copyright, Challenges for entrepreneurs in the changed knowledge regime.

 The keynote speaker of first session was Mrs. Sangeeta Nagar, (Scientist E TIFAC, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India). She talked about the Development of Intellectual Property Rights system in India. She said each and every new invention needs copyright and patent protection and we have to be aware about it.



​Mr. B S Sooch, Registered Patent Agent spoke on Patenting System of India.​ Ms. Sanjeeta Das, Patent Attorney from a leading IPR firm spoke on Trademarks and Design Registration.



During session second, Dr.  Ashwani Siwal (Department of Law, University of Delhi) informed about Copyright Management in Academic Institutions in detail and provided information on latest Rulings of the Court on the subject.


Ms. Divya Kaushik, (Scientist PIC) talked about the Role of PIC, PSCST and Services offered. The Experts interacted with the students and shared their experiences.



Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur informed that under Professional Competency Test (PCT) the university has already included Intellectual Property Right (IPR) subject to its curriculum from the academic session 2017-18. At the end.

 Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh proposed vote of thanks and appreciated the learned speaker for their valuable thoughts and suggestions.

Interactive Session For Law Students At Desh Bhagat University

Adopt Professional Approach To Be A Successful Layer: Experts

Desh Bhagat University Best Law College in Punjab, North India Faculty of Law arranged an interactive session to motivate and enhance the knowledge of the law students. LLB, B.A.LLB and L.L.M. classes students took part in it. Giving details, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur informed that the event was organized in collaboration with Legal Aura Society in connection with the Law Awareness Day.


She said that the team consisting of Ms. Ritendar Pal Kaur, (CDPO, Bhawanigarh), Adv. Digvijay Moudgill, (Member Police Counselling Cell, Patiala), Dr. Kiranjot Kaur, (Medical Officer,  Patiala),  Adv. Jaskaran Kaur,


Ms. Savleen Kaur, Ms. Rachal Yusaf and Mr. Ramneek Singh Baweja, (Para Legal Volunteer) shared their views on the topics such as surrogacy, cyber crime, prenatal diagnostic act, rape laws, law and its scope, less push more bend, criminology and psychology etc.


While interacting with the students the speakers said that the field of law is very challenging nowadays and every professional has to have good knowledge about various sections and provisions of the laws of the land.


They inspired the students to work with full determination and to adopt professional approach to be successful lawyers.


The guest speakers encouraged the students to become proactive in every field of life. The students evinced a keen interest and they asked relevant questions on concerned topic which the learned speakers answered to their entire satisfaction.


During the two hour session several points were discussed by the students and the guests. The students expressed their satisfaction and felt encouraged.


Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh thanked the entire team of Legal Aura Society for sharing their valuable views with the students and said that it will prove a blessing for them.


Dr. Inderpreet Kaur (HoD, Faculty of Law) admitted that it was actually very enthusiastic session for the faculty as well as for the University students.  Among others, faculty members of law were also present at the occasion.

Desh Bhagat University Organises Legal Aid Camp

 Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law College in Punjab Organized a one day Legal Aid Camp in connection with World Literacy Day. The camp was arranged at Village Dandrala Dhindsa of District Patiala. Giving Details about the event, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur stated that the students of different Law classes along with faculty members participated in it with zeal and enthusiasm. The objective of the camp was to make people aware about their fundamental rights and about different sections of law. The programme was attended by the villagers, Panchayat members; teachers and students of Govt. Senior Secondary School.


Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, HoD (Desh Bhagat University Best College in Punjab) delivered a lecture on Right to Education and its importance for the progress of the society. On the other side   the law students shared their views on the topics like Law and life, FIR, Arrest, Rights of women during Arrest, Dowry Death, Cyber Crimes, Modesty of Women, Consumer Rights, GST and Free legal aid etc. During the programme various queries put forward by the school students and the villagers were aptly replied by the law faculty members.



Govt. Senior Secondary School Principal, S. Sadhu Singh, village Sarpanch Mrs. Manpreet Kaur and Panchayat Members highly appreciated the effort of the students as well as of the University for such a Noble Task.  


Chancellor, Dr. Zora Singh expressed the view that such events are very useful for students and help them in their multi-functional growth. Vice-chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that the University organises such events from time to time to make common people aware about their rights.


 During the camp faculty members Ms. Ravneet Kaur, Mandeep Kaur, Mandeep Mann, Manpreet and Prabhjot Kaur also shared their views on different topics.

Guest Lecture On ‘Ethics In Public Life And The Role Of Lokpal And Lokayukta' In Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law organised a guest lecture on 'Ethics in Public Life and the Role of Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta’ to enhance the knowledge of the students. Lokpal of Punjab, Justice S. K. Mittal (Retd.) was the Chief Guest and the keynote speaker on this occasion. Students of all thelaw classes attended it. University Chancellor, Dr. Zora Singh welcomed the chief guest and all otherguests.


Speaking on the occasion, the Lokpal of Punjab, Honurable Justice S. K. Mittal (Retd.) said that India is a largest Democracy in the world and the institution of Lokayukta and Lokpal further strengthen it. He asserted that for corruption free society we have to take some bold steps. He also advocated that press should be strong and free enough to take a stand against every type of corruption. No doubt Good Governance, RTI, Transparency, Free Press,  Rule of Law etc. helps in curbing the problem of corruption but actually morals and behaviour of an individual plays an effective role. So, the need of hour is to take a pledge not to indulge in unlawful activities by giving and taking bribery, by undue preferences etc., he insisted.



While interacting with the students he congratulated the law students for choosing a challenging and noble profession. He said that the field of law is very challenging nowadays and every professional has to have good knowledge about various sections and provisions of country's laws. He also inspired the students to work hard and to adopt a professional approach to be successful. He said that a law professional has a lot of options to choose a career from, and good theoretical and practical knowledge is a must for law professionals.



The students evinced a keen interest in the lecture and during the interactive session, they asked numerous questions on the topic which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction. During the programme, a short play, a quiz contest and debate were also held.

Desh Bhagat University Celebrates World Intellectual Property Rights Day

Desh Bhagat University’s Patent Information Centre celebrated World Intellectual Property Rights Day with full enthusiasm. Students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering and other faculties participated in it. The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh at engineering block.



Speaking on the occasion he said that every day, ordinary people are producing extraordinary new things to change the world for the better. We are celebrating World Intellectual Property Rights Day to teach our students about the VARIOUS FACETS OF intellectual property, like patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright etc. which play a major role in encouraging innovation and creativity. The day also makes us aware about how to protect our rights or protect of an innovative idea.


University Provost Dr. Neelima Jerath said that Many times students loose their innovative ideas , designs, creativity or an invention due to lack of proper guidance. The university will help and guide them for patent and copy right etc. She informed that we have already established a patent information center in the university, which will guide the students of different faculties about how they can get their innovation or new ideas registered.



Vice chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh informed that under Professional Competency Test (PCT) the university is going to include Intellectual Property Right (IPR) subject to its curriculum which will be compulsory in all the courses from the academic session 2017-18.This will extend the innovation vision of the university to the highest.



During the programme a special talk was arranged to give detailed information about the basics of Intellectual Property Rights. A quiz contest on the IPR was also organised in which students of different departments like agriculture, life sciences, engineering, art and craft, aviation and others participated. The students who are working on different projects and those who have developed some new techniques were introduced to the audience. Later, these students and winners of quiz contest were honoured. Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Dr. H. K. Sidhu, HoD’s of different departments were also present on the occasion.

Get Together For Law Students At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law organised a Get Together named ‘Budding Lawyers’ for its students to acquaint them with the various career openings for them, how they should prepare themselves for these and how they can be successful as lawyers and law officers. University Pro Chancellor Ms. Tejinder Kaur inaugurated the event by lightening the ceremonial lamp and wishing the students a bright future. Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh while conveying his best wishes to the students said that in future they will fight for justice and for this they have to work hard and be honest to their duties. Vice Chancellor Dr Shalini Gupta congratulated the students for joining this noble profession and encouraged them to serve mankind with honesty and empathy. The students had an open discussion on various issues among themselves as well as with their teachers. The function was a fun filled event in which the law students got an opportunity to interact freely with their seniors. They also exhibited their talent through a colourful cultural programe consisting of songs, dances and skits. Fun games and Modelling Competition was also arranged for them, which were truly liked by everyone. After various rounds of Games, Quiz, Singing and Dance competitions, LLB students namely Harmanjot Singh Grewal, Sandeep Kaur, Abhishek, Nisha, Jasjot Singh and Ranvir Kaur while Shaswat and Jaspreet Kaur of LL.M were declared winners. The students who were in a jolly mood said that with this programe, they have got a chance of introduction with seniors and also got full information about the facilities available in the university. The programe was greatly enjoyed and appreciated by all. Director Faculty of Law Dr. S. S. Saluja wished all the students a bright future. Registrar Dr. Virinder Singh, Director (Academic) Dr. Rajesh Goyal and other faculty members were also present on this occasion. The program ended with a sumptuous lunch and leaving behind sweet memories those will be cherished life long

In The Best Law College In India Desh Bhagat University Celebrates National Law Day

In the best law college in India and in the best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law observed NATIONAL LAW DAY with full enthusiasm. A special program was organized to celebrate the special occasion, which was inaugurated by University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Ms. Tejinder Kaur. Speaking on the occasion they exhorted the students to work hard to achieve their targets.  Mr. Gurpartap Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Fatehgarh Sahib who was the chief guest on this occasion wished all the students a bright future on this particular day. He appreciated the initiative taken by the University for running a free Legal Aid Center for poor and needy people. He also addressed the students of law classes and emphasized the importance of the active role played by the judiciary which he described as a pillar of democracy. He also visited the moot court of the department. Director Faculty of Law Dr. S.S. Saluja welcomed the chief guest and said that with the starting of law courses, the university has fulfilled a big need of the students. He also said the knowledge of the rights and duties is a must for every citizen. Speaking on the occasion, Manpreet Grewal from Law Department briefed about the importance of Law Day and the activities done by faculty of law to help economically poor sections of the society and women who lack legal aid. The students who had made achievements in different fields were honored by the Chief Guest. University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shalini Gupta,  Registrar Dr. Virinder Singh, Director Faculty of Engineering & Technology Dr. P.S. Cheema, Controller Examinations Dr. I.S. Sethi, faculty members of law and other departments and a large number of students were present on this occasion.
