A Seminar On Narcotics And Drugs At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University’s Bhai Kanhaiya Ji NSS Department in association with Punjab Police, District Fatehgarh Sahib organised a seminar on the evil of Narcotics and Drugs. A large number of students from different faculties attended it.

While giving details, Pro chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that the event was arranged to create awareness against Drug Abuse among youth. Dr. Kaustubh Sharma, IPS (DIG Punjab Police and Zonal Director, Narcotics Control Bureau Punjab, Chandigarh) was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh welcomed the chief guest and all other guests.

While interacting with the students, Dr. Kaustubh Sharma, IPS said that Drug addiction is a dark spot on the image of state of Punjab, we have to adopt a firm stand against all kinds of drugs, so that we may protect and save our holy state. He exhorted the students to keep away from all kinds of drugs and come forward to vanish this menace from the society.

Ms. Alka Meena (SSP, Fatehgarh Sahib) graced the event as guest of honour. She said that Drugs is the major reason behind most of the crimes and youth are more vulnerable in the society. We have to keep highly aware our students against drugs from the very beginning so that they can be protected from this curse. She urged the students and youth to come forward against drugs to make Punjab a healthy and rich state.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Sharanjit Singh (SP, Head Quarter). During the seminar a play on Drug abuse was staged by students of Pharmacy which encouraged everyone to stand firm against drugs. The students who got positions in poster making completion were honored by the chief guest. The winners are Gagandeep Kaur, Prabhjot, Pushpinder and RajShree Rai . A Physically challenged student Avtar Singh , who made a poster with his feet was especially honoured. The event was followed by a range of queries put forward by the students to which the learned speaker aptly replied.

Vice chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh proposed vote of thanks and hope the event will prove fruitful for the society. Mr. Rajesh Chibber(DSP), B.S. Grewal(SHO, Amloh), Hemant Sharma ( Traffic Incharge), Dr. Kulbhushan, Dr. Surjit Patheja, Dr. Puja Gulati, Hod’s and faculty members were also present on the occasion.

Desh Bhagat University Pays Rich Tributes To Martyrs By Staging A Play Jagriti

Desh Bhagat University organised a special programme to pay rich tributes to the great heroes of Indian Freedom Movement. University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh along with staff and students remembered the great sacrifices made by the patriots during freedom struggle.

On this occasion, A play Jagriti was performed by Adi Manch Theater Group Ambala, which was based on the martyrdom of  Sardar Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev. The play highlighted various aspects of the life of these martyers, who struggled hard to free their motherland from the British rule. The artists beautifully performed  their character that inculcated patriotism, dedication and love for motherland among the students. 

Earlier, the function started with paying floral tribute to all martyrs of Indian freedom struggle. While speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh urged the students to inbibe the spirit of dedication, duty and patriotism towards the country from the life of the martyrs who fought for the freedom of the country till their last breath.

Director of the play Rahul Sharma described that the play Jagriti is adopted from the play Gagan Damama Baajyo written by Piyush Mishra.

The artists who performed in the play was Deepak Vij as Bhagat Singh, Sumit Makkar as Rajguru, Ankur as Sukhdev, Shiv Malik as Chander Shekhar Azad, Monika as Vidyavati, Jagdish Dhiman as Lawyer, Naresh Sharma as Judge, child artist Vardaan, Devans, Vanash, Madhav, Atharav, Taran and Yaman. Music of the play was given by Rahul Verma and Lighting by Yogesh jangra.

Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur appreciated the performance of each and every artist of the play. The life of these martyrs is a story of supreme sacrifice and is very close to the hearts of the people, she added.

Desh Bhagat University’s Department of Aeronautical Engineering organised an Aeromodelling Show. The event was arranged by Aerospace Club of the university in collaboration with Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). Students of different classes participated in it and presented their Aero Models. Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh welcomed the chief guest and other guests.

Mr. S.P Singh (Retired Air NCC Aeromodler) a member of Aeronautical Society of India was chief guest on this occasion. In his key note speech he discussed about Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), its importance for armed forces in today’s hi-tech era. He also educated the students about recent trends in aerospace technology, future expectations and expansion in aviation. He described the innovative Aeronautical methodologies being adopted nowadays by aeronautical world. Students asked relevant questions on concerned topic which the learned speakers answered to their entire satisfaction.

Er. Parmod K. Mandal , Head of  Aeronautical Engineering briefed that Apart from students exhibited their projects and in Aero modeling competition students showed their skills as individual and in team projects as well. He has also emphasized that Desh Bhagat University will be introducing B Tech. Aerospace Engineering and B Sc. Aircraft Maintenance from 2017-18 session to meet the requirements of skilled manpower in Aviation sector as recommended by UGC.In Aero modeling competition students demonstrated Unmanned Aerial Vehicles,  RC Air crafts and Quard Rotor Drones made by them.

The winners of different categories are as below:Remote Control Aircraft Team consisting of  Mohit Kumar, Harwinder, Kiran, Aman and Hussain (all from B. Tech, Aeronautical Engineering) 
Quard rotor Drone: Sukhwinder (B.Tech), Shivam and Anish (Diploma Aeronautical Engineering) were adjudged winners.The experts appreciated their innovative ideas and guided them how they can improve. During the technical cum interaction sessions, lectures were delivered by experts and PPT, Oral and Poster presentations were made by teachers and Aeronautical students. The students said the views expressed by the experts have encouraged them to learn maximum.

At the end of the event, University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh, thanked all the guests and said that it will prove quite useful for the students and faculty members. On this occasion Dr. Rajan Manro, Aeronautical faculty members Er. Harekrishna, Er. Loveleen,

A Series Of Free Medical Check-Up Camps By Desh Bhagat University

A little change in daily routine, Morning walk, 15 minutes of exercise, Meditation and by avoiding oily and spicy foods we can remain fit and healthy for long time, said Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University. He was inaugurating the medical camp being held at Desh Bhagat Hospital. He informed that Desh Bhagat University has started a series of free medical camps to make people aware about health and fitness. The Medical Teams of Desh Bhagat Hospital and Desh Bhagat Dental College are jointly arranging these camps, he added.

While giving more details, Dr. Kulbhushan disclosed that during this camp team of doctors consisting of Dr. Baljit Singh (CMO) Dr. Gulzar Singh (SMO), Dr. Nishant Paika (Medical Officer) , Team of Dental Doctors  Dr. Kamal,  Dr. Vikram, Dr. Sukhpreet , Dr. Rupinder, Dr. Aradhana along with the team of Physiotherapists Parvinder Kaur, Hitesh and Anna examined more than 200 patients.

He also informed that Earlier, a camp was arranged at village Khaniyan where 110 patients were examined. Whereas, at village Rajgarh Channa 150 patients were examined and given necessary medical assistance. Medicines were provided free of cost and some tests were also done free of cost during these camps. The medical teams also advised the people about proper eating habits, avoid eating unripe and unhygienic fruits and also keep away from junk food.

University Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur appreciated the doctors for their services and appealed to the people to get maximum advantage from the services being provided by Desh Bhagat Hospital and Desh Bhagt Dental College. such Medical Camps organized from time to time .

Principal Dr. Jatinder Tyagi said that the Patients were highly pleased and contented with the treatment and facilities provided by Desh Bhagat University during the medical camp.

Mandy Takhar Regales Desh Bhagat University Students

Desh Bhagat Dental College and University Department of Media Entertainment and Film Technology arranged an interaction of its students with the cast of the soon to be released Punjabi Film "Rabb Da Radio". Famous actress Mandy Takkhar who is in lead role of the film, came to the university, along with her team. The film team had come for the promotion of their film and they regaled the students of the university with dialogues and songs of the upcoming movie.

University Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, Dr. Surjit Patheja and and Principal Desh Bhagat Dental College Dr. Neeru Singh welcomed Mandy Takhar and other artists with bouquets and conveyed them their best wishes for the success of their newly coming film. Speaking about her new film, Mandy Takhar said that this is a love-drama-comedy movie and the music of this film has already gained lot of popularity among the Punjabis. The film will be released on 31st of March, 2017.

Interacting with the students, Mandy Takhar observed that the story of this film is very interesting and it will be liked by people of every age and every section of the society. When she performed on the songs of the film, the students enjoyed these so much that they started dancing out of joy. She also entertained the students with their old and new film dialogues.

Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh wished good luck to the film team and said that Punjabi Films have made a respectable place in the film world and the need of the hour is to make such films as can entertain as well as educate the viewers and give right direction to the society.

National Seminar On Climate Change And Sustainable Agriculture Held At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Engineering and Technology organised a one day National Seminar on 'Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture: National and Regional Scenario’. The seminar was mainly sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the minor sponsor was Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). The Seminar was focused on various issues of climate change, how it influences agriculture and various mitigating policies. Eminent Scientists,


 Educationists, Scholars, Policymakers, Teachers and a large number of students from different parts of the country took part in it.University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh presided over the inaugural session.  Speaking on the occasion, he said that the change in climate is a hot topic and we all have to do something in this regard. Giving more details Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Neelima Jerath said that Mr. Sanjay Ghosh from NABARD was the chief guest on this occasion, who encouraged all present to take each and every step to save our environment. Dr. Ram Bhoojh from UNESCO graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr S. K. Saxena from Punjab State Council of Science and Technology appealed the farmers not to burn wheat and paddy stubble , it produces harmful gases which are extremely harmful for health and environment. The experts also briefed on the Projects taken up by India (in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh) under Green Climate Fund and National Adaption Fund for Climate Change.

Delegates from 8 States like Punjab, H.P., M.P , U.P.  , Uttrakhand, J&K ,Delhi and UT’s were also present and experts from Punjab University ChandÄ«garh, Punjabi University, Patiala , Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana ,Guru Nanak Dev University , Amritsar and PGI etc. also shared their views in the seminar. Five  technical sessions were organised on various themes: Climate change and sustainable  Agriculture: National  and Regional Scenario, Climate change, Meteorology and Agriculture, Biodiversity and Renewable Energy, Industry ,Climate change and Health, Economy, Business and science. The seminar was also attended by progressive farmers of Fatehgarh Sahib.

During the seminar, as many as 20 invited lectures were delivered by renowned scholars and environmental experts. More than 30 oral and poster presentations were made by research scholars, teachers and students hailing from different parts of the country. At the end of the seminar Pro Chancellor, Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Vice-Chancellor Dr.Virinder Singh thanked all the guests and expressed pleasure at the overwhelming response to the seminar and hoped that it will prove quite useful for the students, faculty members and policymakers. Director Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Dr. H. K. Sidhu, HoD’s and faculty members were also present on this occasion.

4th Annual Athletic Meet Of Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University organised its 4th Annual Athletic Meet with great fervour. The meet began with University Chancellor, Dr. Zora Singh hoisting the university flag and flying the colourful balloons. He inspired the students by emphasizing that participation is more important in sports than victory or defeat.

Arjuna Awardee weight lifter and Coach Mr. Paramjit Sharma from Punjabi University, Patiala joined as chief guest on inaugural ceremony. While motivating the youths about games he said that our youths has good sports talent, they only need proper guidance and direction. He exhorted them to play games and make games regular part of their life and keep away from all kinds of drugs. Mrs. Ushakiran Sharma was special guest on this occasion.

During the Athletic meet, individual and team competitions among students of various university faculties were held. These competitions included: Races of 400 Meters, 200 Meters, 100 Meters, Shot-put, Javelin, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Football Discus Throw and Long Jump.

ete among girls. Faculty of Education lifted the Overall Champions Trophy.

University Vice-chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh presided over the valedictory function and gave away the prizes to the winners. He appreciated the sports talent of the students. On this occasion, Director Dr. Kulbhushan, Director Dr. Surjit Patheja and large number of students from different faculties were present.Results of different events were as under:In Girls Category 800 Mtrs Race : Kanwaljeet Kaur got first position and Amandeep Kaur stood second (both from Faculty of Education). In long Jump: Amulpreet Kaur (Faculty of Nursing) stood First, Amannpreet Kaur (Faculty of Education) got second position. In Shotput : Parminder Kaur claimed First and Kanwaljeet Kaur- claimed Second position(both from Faculty of Education).

In Boys Category, 800 Mtrs Race: Ankush Rahar (Faculty of Ayurveda) stood first while Parkash Singh (Faculty of Management) stood second. In 400 Mtrs. Race: Ravinder Singh (Faculty of Education) stood first while Ankush Rahar (Faculty of Ayurveda)  stood second. In 200 Mtrs. Race: Ravinder Singh (Faculty of Education) stood first, Bikramjit Singh (Faculty of Management) stood second. In Discuss Throw: Muddasar Shakeel(Faculty of Management) stood first, Gurkaran Singh  (Faculty of Engineering) scored second.
