Desh Bhagat University Student Wins Gold Medal In International Boxing (Women) Championship

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Education student Prabhjot Kaur has brought glory to the institution by winning Gold Medal in a renowned Boxing Competition. Prabhjot won her Gold Medal during the Indo-Nepal Boxing Championship held recently at Nepal. This was disclosed by DBU Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. While felicitating the student, he said that Prabhjot Kaur proved her worth during a very tough competition in 69-75 Kg weight category. She is our Shining Star and a role model for other students. She had also won a Gold Medal in a national level event at Mumbai in the month of May this year. Dr. Singh expressed the view that games and sports are an integral part of our education and to promote the same among students, Desh Bhagat University, in best university in Punjab provides all types of incentives and facilities to the outstanding players.

Prabhjot said that the competition was really tough but to reach in final was like a dream comes true. Desh Bhagat University Celebrates International Yoga Day

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur on the International Yoga Day said that ‘Yoga is the art work of awareness on the canvas of body, mind and soul. It transforms new energy, enthusiasm and positive thinking in us and our youth have to adopt yoga for holistic development of their personalities’.

She was speaking on the inaugural ceremony of 4th International Day of Yoga organized at the University. The District level program was organised in collaboration with Ayush Department, Punjab and District Ayurvedic and Unani office, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab.

 In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Registrar, Dr. Kulbhushan informed that more than 800 participants attended the early morning session with full enthusiasm. The event was started with the live telecast of Prime Minister of India Sh. Narinder Modi's Yoga Day Celebration from Dehradoon.

The team of Ayush Department was headed by Dr. Poonam Vashist (District Ayurvedic and Unani Officer, FGS) who said that it’s proud moment for all of us that today Yoga has attained a new identity all over the world. The Ayush team consisting of Dr. Rajan Kaushal (Medical Officer), Dr. Jaswant Singh, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Dr. Deewan Dheer (District Ayurvedic Officer) and Dr. Kulwinder Sharma imparted the knowledge of various types of yoga exercises.

Desh Bhagat University situated in Punjab offers some of the best Ayurveda courses in India like BAMS, M.D. Ayurveda Kayachikitsa, M.D. Ayurveda RasaShastra, B.Sc. Naturopathy & Yogic Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Panchkarma.

Dr. Harinder Pal Singh, Dr. Uma Bedi, Dr. Manilla and Dr. Bhanu Priya demonstrated different postures that are beneficial for all age groups.

 Earlier, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh while welcoming all the guests and participants said that Yoga practice makes us strong internally as well as externally. Dr. Kirpal Singh (Assistant Civil Surgeon, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab) graced the occasion as guest of honour.  DPRO Kuljeet Singh, Tehsildar Navdeep Singh, Naib Tehsildar Karamjeet Singh were also present .

 A large number of students and eminent personalities belonging to different areas participated in the celebration and expressed their happiness saying that Yoga has transformed a new energy in them. The students who have won positions in different categories of Yoga Competition were also honoured.

Desh Bhagat University Celebrates International Biodiversity Day

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University celebrated International Biodiversity Day in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board (PBB). 

The programme was sponsored by National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India. Students of Agriculture Department and other faculties participated in it with full enthusiasm.

The university Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur briefed that the event included a field visit to a village Cholti Kheri which has been recognized as rich heritage site. Agriculture department students of B.Sc.Agriculture, B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) Integrated, B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) visited the village along with Ms. Piyusha (HoD Agriculture) and Dr. H. K. Sidhu.  It is worth mentioning that the sprawling Kaya Kalp Vriksh (Great Banyan Tree) at the remote village of Cholti Kheri, Khera Mandal block, Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab, has been declared the first biodiversity heritage site of Punjab. The tree is approximately 300 years’ old, spread over 3.5-acre land.

The ‘magical’ tree represents a complete ecosystem supporting rich biodiversity, including peacocks, owls and many other birds, reptiles such as snakes, monitor lizards, garden lizards, insects, arthropods, millipedes, nematodes, epiphytes, bryophytes, fungi, algae and lichens. The site is being conserved and managed with the active support of Fatehgah Sahib District administration and the Biodiversity Management Committee set up by the Board. 

Dr. H. K. Sidhu informed the students that the Punjab Biodiversity Board (PBB) has finalized a proposal to get the site of this tree listed as a biodiversity heritage site (BHS) for its conservation and management under Section 37 of the Biological Diversity Act (BDA), 2002. The tree is situated on private land, but owners of the land have willingly given their land for declaration of the tree as a heritage site.

Village Sarpanch S. Gurwinder Singh along with Panchayat members were also present. He highlighted about the religious view of People. The Students also interacted with the farmers and were made aware about the traditional seeds (Desi Seeds) of various crops used by the farmers.

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh thanked the farmers and village Sarpanch for sparing their valuable time and guiding the students. He also thanked Punjab Biodiversity Board and National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India for sponsoring the event.

Desh Bhagat Dental College & Hospital Celebrates No Tobacco Day

Desh Bhagat Dental College and Hospital, a constituent of Desh Bhagat University observed World No Tobacco Day. The dental students of different classes participated in it and organized awareness drives against tobacco products at different places.

University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh encouraged the dental students and staff to put every effort to make people aware about the ill effects of tobacco on human health.

The team led by Dr. Rajvir Kaur Grewal (Reader, Dept. of Oral Pathology) made the people aware about oral health. Dr. Tamanna Soni, Dr. Sonal Bhatia and Dr. Gagandeep Singh Ghansi conducted awareness talk with migrant workers and labourers highlighting about devastating harms of tobacco which might lead to Cancer. The team also motivated tobacco users to visit tobacco cessation centre at DBDC.

Giving more details, Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur informed that the team consisted of Dr. Prabhjot, Dr. Monika Kalia and Dr. Jasvir counseled the patients on lifestyle changes such as reducing tobacco use and also provided solution to reduce tobacco related death and disease at Desh Bhagat Chowk.

In another move, Dr. Rajvir Grewal along with the team visited Desh Bhagat Global School and addressed the students from 8th to 11th class as this age group is most easily vulnerable to sell tobacco products. The students were made aware about different forms of tobacco and explained about its harmful effects on individual physically, mentally and socially. The students also took a pledge to refrain from the use of tobacco and adopted the motto, ‘Say No to Tobacco and Yes to  Life’.

Desh Bhagat University Celebrates Nurses Week

Students Starts An Awareness Drive On Rubella And Measles


In top 5 universities in punjab,  Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Nursing celebrated World Nurses’ Day in a special manner. To mark this day, a week long health awareness programme was arranged. On the final day of the proagramme a special function was organised. The Students of M.Sc. Nursing , Post basic Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing, GNM and ANM participated in it.

University Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh inaugurated the event and appreciated the initiative taken by the nursing students. Speaking on this occasion, he said that International Nurses Day is marked every year to celebrate the contributions to society and medical care made by nurses around the world. The date was chosen as Florence Nightingale's birth anniversary – to celebrate the 'lady with the lamp' who nursed wounded soldiers during the Crimean War, and whose progressive ideas and reforms influenced the nature of modern-day nursing.

Giving more details about the awareness week programmes, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that nursing students took part in different activities. The students organised a door to door campaign to create awareness among people regarding different diseases like Diabetes, Cancer, Epilepsy, Obesity, Drugs and other medical conditions. The students also started a special awareness drive on Rubella and Measles Vaccination. Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh appreciated the move and said that such programmes are very helpful for the people, especially for the rural area people.

 Vice Principal Deepak Shandilya informed that the students distributed pictorial pamphlets to spread awareness among school students, local residents and surrounding areas of Amloh. The students also urged the people not to give any attention towards the rumours being spread about the ill effects of Measles and Rubella vaccination.Later, the students who had made excellent performance in events like awareness activities, quiz contest, poster making, dance competition, speech contest and other competitions were honoured.

Farewell Party At Desh Bhagat University

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Business Management and Commerce organised a Farewell Party for MBA, M.Com, BBA & B.Com students with great fervour and joy. University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur presided over the function and conveyed their best wishes to the students.

 A Cultural programme was arranged on this occasion, in which students performed Bhangra, Gidha, Group Dance, Choreography, Mono Acting, Mimicry and Fun Games etc. The main attraction of the party was modeling on ramp by the outgoing students. To add more fun to the celebration, the outgoing students' precise commentary on their personalities were also enacted by their juniors as a token of love and honour.

 After diverse rounds of games and performances, Ms. Azra Aslam of M.Com won the title of 'Miss Farewell' and Amir Zahoor of IMBA was selected as 'Mr. Farewell'. Ms. Gurleen Kaur from Class B.Com won the Miss Personality and Lovepreet Singh of BBA got Mr. Personality title. The party was highly enjoyed and appreciated by the students. Later the students enjoyed the DJ Dance Party.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that Desh Bhagat University has made special achievements in academics, cultural, sports, and social service activities, highlighting additional facilities provided for enhancing their general knowledge all along with the regular curriculum so that they can grow in every field in this age of competition.

A Program on Mathematics Awareness at Desh Bhagat University

As part of Mathematics Awareness Month Celebrations, in best universities in Punjab and North India, Desh Bhagat University celebrated National Mathematics Day. The event was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). The Experts of the day were Er. Nitin from Patiala and Mr. Vishal from Pushpa Gujral Science City. Students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering, Agriculture Courses & Applied Sciences participated in it.

Program on Mathematics Awareness at Desh Bhagat University

The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. He said that objective of the event is to teach the students about the various facets of mathematics in daily life.  Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh highlighted that Indian history reflects back the origin of great scientists and mathematicians.

Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Neelima Jerath gave a brief introduction about the day. She highlighted that digit 0 (Zero) is invented by the Indians though the history of mathematics dates back to Babylonian and Mayan civilization also, besides Indian civilization. She brought out that mathematics provided the base of many scientific branches.  

In first session, Mr. Nitin, an expert in Vedic Mathematics informed the students that Vedic Mathematics was useful in development of mind in order to achieve the goals in life. He explained how complex additions, square of a numbers etc. can be done within a second by applying the basics of Vedic mathematics.

In the second session Mr. Vishal from Pushpa Gujral Science city presented his talk on “Thinking out of box for sustainable development”. He presented case studies on inventions by school students and how necessity becomes the mother of invention. He also motivated the students to be part of inventions and innovations.

Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur informed that such events to overcome phobia of mathematics should be regularly conducted in the university.

Dr. H. K. Sidhu and Dr. Ruchi proposed vote of thanks and appreciated the learned speakers for their valuable thoughts and suggestions. Er. Arshdeep Singh, Er. Amritpal Singh were also present at the occasion.
