North Zone Inter University Football (Men) Tournament began at Desh Bhagat University with great pomp and show. A total of 69 teams from different universities from all over India are participating in this tournament under the flag of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Desh Bhagat University is hosting this annual event of the AIU.

Dr. C . S. Grewal (Former Director Physical Education and Sports, Panjab University Chandigarh) was the Chief Guest on the inaugural day. While speaking on the occasion he conveyed his best wishes to all the teams saying that games and sports are an essential part of our education. He encouraged all the students to participate in sports activities with full enthusiasm and win medals for the country. Mr Mohinder Singh Grewal from Canada graced the occasion as guest of honour.

 University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur warmly welcomed all the guests, teams and their officials. They gave good wishes to the participating teams and exhorted them to adopt positive attitude in all fields, do their best in games and glorify the country.

On the first day there was Flag hoisting and march past ceremony. All the teams and their coaches took oath of fare play and to follow rules and regulations. After formal introduction with chief guest, officials and other guests’ teams played their matches according to fixtures of their pools. There were tough games between the teams of Kumaun University Nainital and Lovely Professional University Phagwara (won). Other teams who played on day first were Amity University Haryana, Mahrishi Markandeshwar University Mulana, Delhi University , Jamia Milia Islamia Delhi and Maharaja Ranjit Singh PTU Bathinda.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh informed that the university is organising this tournament strictly in accordance with Latest Rules and Regulations adopted by respective National Sports Federations approved by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Among others Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Director Amit Sachdeva, Sports coaches and DP’s of different universities were also present on this occasion.

Deshbhagatuniversity Pro Chancellor Tajinder Kaur Conferred Doctorate Degree

Desh Bhagt University Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur has been conferred honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) degree by Kaziranga University. Ms.Tajinder Kaur received the honouris causa degree from the chancellor of Kaziranga University Dr. Murli Dhar Khetan during 3rd convocation programme of the University, held recently at their campus Jorhat-Assam. The KU authority conferred doctorate degree on her distinguished services in the field of women empowerment and environment. Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur is the CEO of Hara Punjab Khara Samaj, an NGO working for social causes and environmental protection.

It’s worth mentioning that Kaziranga University awarded only two Honarary Doctorate Degrees on the convocation, one to Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur and second to Bharat Ratan Prof. Chintamani Nagesa Ramchandra (CNR) Rao for his extra ordinary contribution in the field of science, who had been the Advisor Science & Technology to five prime ministers of India.Dr. Tajinder Kaur while expressing her gratitute to Kaziranga University management said that it is an honour for all the women and this will encourage her to work with much more zeal for the betterment of society. Dr. Kaur said that her husband Dr. Zora Singh always encouraged her for the plantation of trees and working for rural women.

Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh congratulated Dr. Tajinder Kaur on this achievement. They said her contribution to society is exceptional and she is an inspiration for others. Vice President Desh Bhagat United Er. Sandeep Singh said that it’s another feather in her cap. University Directors of different faculties including Provost & Dean Research Mrs Neelima Jerait, Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Dr. Diwan Singh, Dr. Kulbhushan and Amit Sachdeva also congratulated to Dr. Tajinder Kaur.

Medical Check-Up Camp By Desh Bhagat Hospital In Pious Memory Of Mata Gujar Kaur Ji & Sahibzadas

Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic Hospital organised a free Ayurvedic medical check-up camp in the pious memory of Mata Gujar Kaur Ji & Sahibzadas.  A team of doctors with paramedical staff members examined more than 200 patients in the camp.

While giving details, Director Faculty of Ayurveda Dr. Kulbhushan said that the team which examined the patients was led by Dr. Gulzar Singh, Chief Medical Officer of the Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic Hospital. He disclosed that most of the patients examined by the team were suffering from Cold related illness, Hypertension, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Diabetes, Joint Pains, Low Eye Vision, Skin Disorders and Anemia etc. Medicines were provided free of cost. Some tests were also done free of cost. The medical team also advised the people about proper eating habits, avoid going outside in chilled weather without covering head and face, avoid eating unripe and unhygienic fruits and also keep away from oily and spicy food.

Desh Bhagat University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Mrs. Tajinder Kaur appreciated the doctors for their services and appealed to the people to get maximum advantage from the services being provided by Desh Bhagat Hospital. Vice-chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that the hospital has been organising such camps from time to time.

Principal Dr. Jatinder Tyagi said that the aim of this camp was to create health awareness among the people and provide them necessary medical assistance. Patients were highly pleased and contented with the treatment and facilities provided by Desh Bhagat Hospital during the medical camp.

Desh Bhagat University Students Shine In Aeronautical Event

Desh Bhagat University Institute of Engineering & Technology, Department of Aeronautical Engineering students proved their excellence in an Aeronautical event conducted by Chandigarh chapter of Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI). The event was aimed to create awareness about the emerging field of Aerospace Engineering among the students.

While giving details of the event, university Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur said that Desh Bhagat University’s final year students of Aeronautical Engineering exhibited their live project during this event. These students also flew their Remote Controlled (RC) Airplanes and Quad Copters (QC) in front of Aviation experts and students of different schools of Tricity.

The students showed their talent with perfection and excellence. Padma Shree awardee Dr. Satish Kumar (Director, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra) who was the chief guest on the occasion, appreciated the talent of DBU students. Dr. Kumar encouraged all the students to learn maximum and develop indigenous technology. He stressed/exhorted that there is vast scope in the aerospace sector for engineers and scientists.

Dr. Parmod K. Mandal (HoD, Aeronautical Department, DBU) said that apart from delegates of DRDO, Indian Air Force and various Academia our students impressed all present there by showcasing their 7 different projects. The students also got a chance to interact with aviation and aeronautical experts. Ashwagosha Ganju, Chairman Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), Chandigarh chapter spoke on different topics of Aeronautical Engineering and informed the students about the demands and trends of the industry in today’s competitive era. The society also launched Aerospace Club in 13 different schools of the city.

University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh congratulated the students and encouraged them always to give their best and learn maximum practically. Director Academics Dr. Diwan Singh appreciated the hard work done by the teachers of Best Aeronautical EngineeringCollege in Punjab, Department to guide these students. The students were quite happy and excited to attend the event.

Orientation Programe For Agriculture Diploma Students At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University, Faculty of Agriculture Sciences College in Punjab, Organised an Orientation programme for the diploma course students and acquaint them with the facilities and the academic atmosphere available in the university.

University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur inaugurated the function. They welcomed the students and conveyed their best wishes. Dr. Singh motivated the students to make the best use of the educational and training facilities available to them in the university to succeed in their careers.

During the programme, lectures were delivered by experts. PPT, Oral and Poster presentations were also made by teachers and agriculture experts. Students were informed about the latest trends and research methodologies being adopted in the field of agriculture nowadays. Dr. H.K. Sidhu gave lecture on the uses of different kind of Pesticides.  Dr. Dharminder briefed about the hi-tech facilities and experimental labs available in the university premises. Er. Arshdeep Singh interacted with the students on the topic of organic farming. The students evinced a keen interest in the programme and during the interaction session, they asked relevant questions on different topics which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction. The students were quite happy to attend this programme.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh expressed the hope that this programme will prove quite useful for the students. Directors and HoD’s of different faculties were also present on the occasion.

Desh Bhagat University Is Committed To Promote Organ Donation: Dr. Zora Singh

Desh Bhagat University College of Pharmacy organised first of its kind programme ‘Awareness of Organ Donation and its Need’.  Students and staff of different faculties including Nursing, Ayurveda and research and Pharmacy participated in it actively. Giving details of the Programme University Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur said that the main objective of the programme is to make aware maximum people about organ donation.

On this occasion Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh (Professor of Urology and Transplant Surgery, DMC&H, Ludhiana) was the Chief Guest, who said that Organ donation is a holy/pious act and by donating organs one can save many precious lives. In several cases patients with critical condition lose their lives in the lack of organ transplantation. As we know that organ or tissue donation is not so popular in our country. There is an urgent need to increase public awareness regarding organ donation and greater effort must be taken to dispel taboos regarding the same. He encouraged all present to promote organ donation and make others aware about it. He highly appreciated the initiative taken by Desh Bhagat University.

While welcoming Dr. Aulakh, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh said that Desh Bhagat University has taken major step to promote organ donation. We have established an Organ Donation Cell in collaboration with National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi.  Dr. Zora Singh said that we are proud that Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh is honorary advisor of this cell, as he is a big name in the organ donation & its awareness.

We want to make the people aware about it and we will do all best possible to promote voluntary organ donation. One dying person can give donation of its organs/tissues to dozens of needy patients & can give them a new life, Dr. Singh added.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pooja Gulati, HoD, College of Pharmacy said that organ donation is a voluntary act but mindset of our society is not friendly with it. Our students will also encourage the people about it and we will arrange awareness camps in villages too for this purpose.

 Later the students of different faculties took out an Awareness Rally/March to draw the attention of the people and make them aware about Organ Donation. The Rally went to surrounding areas and ended at Amloh.

Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh proposed vote of thanks and said that the university will do its best for this noble cause.

North Zone Inter-Varsity Kho-Kho Tournament (GIRLS) Concludes at Desh Bhagat University

'Kho-Kho is one of the oldest games of our country and is still being played in its sevral states. To promote and revive such traditional games there is a great need of Kho-Kho league like Football and Kabaddi leagues,' said Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of the University. He was the Chief Guest on the final day of four-day North Zone Intervarsity Kho-Kho Tournament (Girls) being held at Desh Bhagat University. A total of 20 teams of girls from different universities from all over India participated in the annual tournament of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

The final matches of the tournament were particularly thrilling and breath-taking and players were struggling hard for even a single point. University Pro-Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur presided over the Prize Distribution function. She appreciated all the teams for their excellent performance. Ms. Paramjit Kaur (Rani Jhansi Awardee) and Dr. D.S. Kalra (Director Sports , Kurukshetra University) were Guest of honours on this ocassion.

University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh appreciated all the players and
teams for excellent sports man spirit and said that such sports events
play a vital role in their all-round development.

The result of the tournament was as under: 

1.      Punjabi University, Patiala (First Position)

2.      Panjab University, Chandigarh (Second Position)

3.     Kurukshetra University , Kurukshetra (Third Position)

4.     H.P. University, Shimla ( Fourth Position)

The Tournament was a source of great education and entertainment for the students and staff of the different universities. All the players and coaches of the teams appreciated the arrangements made by the host university. The members of Kho-Kho official committee sent by AIU were also honoured for their services during the tournament. This event was organised under the supervision of sports coordinator and Coach Nandan Singh.
