A Program on Mathematics Awareness at Desh Bhagat University

As part of Mathematics Awareness Month Celebrations, in best universities in Punjab and North India, Desh Bhagat University celebrated National Mathematics Day. The event was sponsored by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). The Experts of the day were Er. Nitin from Patiala and Mr. Vishal from Pushpa Gujral Science City. Students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering, Agriculture Courses & Applied Sciences participated in it.

The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. He said that objective of the event is to teach the students about the various facets of mathematics in daily life.  Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh highlighted that Indian history reflects back the origin of great scientists and mathematicians.

Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Neelima Jerath gave a brief introduction about the day. She highlighted that digit 0 (Zero) is invented by the Indians though the history of mathematics dates back to Babylonian and Mayan civilization also, besides Indian civilization. She brought out that mathematics provided the base of many scientific branches.  


In first session, Mr. Nitin, an expert in Vedic Mathematics informed the students that Vedic Mathematics was useful in development of mind in order to achieve the goals in life. He explained how complex additions, square of a numbers etc. can be done within a second by applying the basics of Vedic mathematics.


In the second session Mr. Vishal from Pushpa Gujral Science city presented his talk on “Thinking out of box for sustainable development”. He presented case studies on inventions by school students and how necessity becomes the mother of invention. He also motivated the students to be part of inventions and innovations.


Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur informed that such events to overcome phobia of mathematics should be regularly conducted in the university.

Dr. H. K. Sidhu and Dr. Ruchi proposed vote of thanks and appreciated the learned speakers for their valuable thoughts and suggestions. Er. Arshdeep Singh, Er. Amritpal Singh were also present at the occasion.

Save Natural Resources: Muni Vinay Kumar Alok

‘Nature has gifted us priceless Natural resources like Air, water and energy etc. and it’s our moral responsibility to protect these resources’ said Jain Muni Vinay Kumar Alok. He was interacting with the students at Desh Bhagat University during his visit there. He exhorted them to set a mission in their life, plan strategy to achieve that and take lessons from all their failures.


Earlier, Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh welcomed him and they took a round of different departments of the university.


While talking about the value education, Muni Kumar Alok insisted that Value Education is the need of the hour and it should be a must for every student. He suggested that peace of mind is essential and that can be achieved only by doing good to others. He also emphasized that one has to start good things from the home and set an example for others. He focused on being good human being and to be responsible towards their duty. This is the best way how society can be benefited. He encouraged the students to contribute and make our country sound and strong.


The students evinced a keen interest and asked relevant questions on different topics which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction.

A Guest Lecture on Narcotics and Drugs at Desh Bhagat University, Best University in Punjab

In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University’s Bhai Kanhaiya Ji NSS Department in association with Punjab Police, District Fatehgarh Sahib organised a guest lecture on the evil of Narcotics and Drugs. A large number of students and staff members from different faculties attended it.


While giving details, Pro chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that the event was arranged to create awareness against Drug Abuse among youth under the state Government’s DAPO (Drug Abuse Prevention Officer) scheme. S. Jaspreet Singh, IAS (SDM, Amloh) and Manpreet Singh DSP, Amloh were the key note speakers on the occasion. Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh welcomed all the guests and the audience.


While interacting with the students, SDM S. Jaspreet Singh, IAS said that Drug addiction is a dark spot on the image of state of Punjab, we have to adopt a firm stand against all kinds of drugs, so that we may protect and save our holy state. He exhorted the students to keep away from all kinds of drugs and come forward to vanish this menace from the society.


DSP Manpreet Singh said that Drugs is the major reason behind most of the crimes and youth are more vulnerable in the society. We have to keep highly aware our students against drugs from the very beginning so that they can be protected from this curse. He urged the students and youth to come forward against drugs to make Punjab a healthy and rich state.


The speakers also informed about the DAPO Program of the state government (the module that will not only fight against drug abuse but will also work for the rehabilitation of the addicts). The event was followed by a range of queries put forward by the students to which the learned speakers aptly replied.In best university in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University Pro Vice chancellor, Dr. Neelima Jerath proposed vote of thanks and hope the event will prove fruitful for the society. Guest Lecture on ‘Panchayti Raj’ in Best University in Punjab, Desh Bhagat University

In top llb colleges in chandigarh Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law organized a guest lecture on ‘Working of Panchayati Raj Laws in the State of Punjab’ to enhance the knowledge of the students. The lecture was attended by all the students of law classes - LLB, LLM, B.A LLB .


While giving details Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur said that Prof. Irvinder Pal Singh Jodhka from State Institute of Rural Development, Punjab was the Guest speaker. He elaborated the salient provisions and practical working of the Panchayti Raj Act, The Village Common Lands Regulation Act and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in detail.  He also discussed about the role of Gram Sabha , other Panchayti Raj Institutions (PRIs), i.e.,


Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samities and Zila Parishads as Local Self Government and as organs of rural development and public welfare. He highlighted the recent emergence of Gram Panchayts as employers under the MGNREGA scheme and the recent trend of making population-based grants available to the Gram Panchayts subsequent to the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission of India. The measures being taken regarding the promotion of transparency in the working of PRIs were also discussed.


Dr. Inderpreert Kaur (HoD Faculty of Law) informed that the lecture was followed by an inter-active session and students asked numerous questions on the topic which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction. A street play regarding drug-addiction was also performed by the students.


Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh thanked the guest speaker for sparing valuable time and sharing his views with the students. Among others, Satish Kumar and Law faculty members were present on the occasion.

Agro Fest on 16 March from 9 am to 5 pm @deshbhagatuniversity

Agri Incubator of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Campus (IEDC) Desh Bhagat University is organizing an Agro-Festival on 16th March 2018.




































The event is designed to bring together leading exhibitors related to agricultural industry, suppliers of Equipments & Farm machinery, Animal Feed, bee keeping, mushroom cultivation, Vermicomposting, fish farming, drip irrigation, food processing, animal husbandry etc. who are participating in the event to capitalize their business. The purpose is to provide a platform to farmers and progressive farmers to interact and share their knowledge about latest techniques, updated equipments and subsidiary occupation, bank policies and schemes to support agriculture. Students of different colleges will participate and exhibit live models. The event will also comprise of cultural programme games stalls and eatable stalls for entertainment.

Desh Bhagat University Celebrates International Biodiversity Day

The Research cell of Desh Bhagat University and pg school of ayurveda celebrated International Biodiversity Day 2017 by organizing a seminar on ‘The Biological Diversity Act and Tourism" in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board. The programme was sponsored by National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India. Students from different faculties participated in it with full enthusiasm.


The event was inaugurated by university Pro Chancellor and CEO, Hara Punjab Khara Samaj Dr. Tajinder Kaur. She encouraged the students not only to grow maximum number of trees and plants, but also take care of them. At this occasion, Dr. Rakesh Shah IFS, Chairman, Uttarakhand Biodiversity Board was the Chief Guest and key note speaker, who shared his views on the guidelines of Access & benefit sharing Bio diversity Act and Tourism. He also discussed about the Importance of Biodiversity and said that Biodiversity is the term used to describe the variety of life found on Earth and includes ecosystems, genetic and species diversity, and the connections between these.


Dr. Neelima Jerath, Pro Vice-Chancellor spoke on the topic Introduction to Biodiversity and the Biological Diversity Act. During her talk she described how biodiversity affects all aspects of human life. She informed about the provisions under CBD (Convention of Biological Diversity) and the Biological Diversity Act, 2012, and highlighted the efforts made by the government in implementing the Act. The major highlight of the act is that its implementation is decentralized through Biodiversity Management Committees set it at local level.


 During the event, Mr. Jyooti Saroop from Unnati cooperative Society, Talwara participated through Skype and presented his views on the topic ‘Bio Resources based Entrepreneurship’.The students evinced a keen interest in this programme and they asked relevant questions on Biological Diversity, Climate Change, GM Crops, Crops Diversifications and some other important topics, which the learned speakers answered very aptly.Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh appreciated the endeavour of all staff members and students for organizing the event and furthering the vision of Desh Bhagat University in building a greener and cleaner environment. The programme ended with presentation of vote of thanks by Director Dr. Kulbhushan. Staff members of different faculties were present at the occasion.

Guest Lecture On ‘Ethics In Public Life And The Role Of Lokpal And Lokayukta' In Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Law organised a guest lecture on 'Ethics in Public Life and the Role of Lok Pal and Lok Ayukta’ to enhance the knowledge of the students. Lokpal of Punjab, Justice S. K. Mittal (Retd.) was the Chief Guest and the keynote speaker on this occasion. Students of all thelaw classes attended it. University Chancellor, Dr. Zora Singh welcomed the chief guest and all otherguests.


Speaking on the occasion, the Lokpal of Punjab, Honurable Justice S. K. Mittal (Retd.) said that India is a largest Democracy in the world and the institution of Lokayukta and Lokpal further strengthen it. He asserted that for corruption free society we have to take some bold steps. He also advocated that press should be strong and free enough to take a stand against every type of corruption. No doubt Good Governance, RTI, Transparency, Free Press,  Rule of Law etc. helps in curbing the problem of corruption but actually morals and behaviour of an individual plays an effective role. So, the need of hour is to take a pledge not to indulge in unlawful activities by giving and taking bribery, by undue preferences etc., he insisted.



While interacting with the students he congratulated the law students for choosing a challenging and noble profession. He said that the field of law is very challenging nowadays and every professional has to have good knowledge about various sections and provisions of country's laws. He also inspired the students to work hard and to adopt a professional approach to be successful. He said that a law professional has a lot of options to choose a career from, and good theoretical and practical knowledge is a must for law professionals.



The students evinced a keen interest in the lecture and during the interactive session, they asked numerous questions on the topic which the learned speaker answered to their entire satisfaction. During the programme, a short play, a quiz contest and debate were also held.

Desh Bhagat University Celebrates World Intellectual Property Rights Day

Desh Bhagat University’s Patent Information Centre celebrated World Intellectual Property Rights Day with full enthusiasm. Students and staff members from Faculty of Engineering and other faculties participated in it. The event was inaugurated by the university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh at engineering block.



Speaking on the occasion he said that every day, ordinary people are producing extraordinary new things to change the world for the better. We are celebrating World Intellectual Property Rights Day to teach our students about the VARIOUS FACETS OF intellectual property, like patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright etc. which play a major role in encouraging innovation and creativity. The day also makes us aware about how to protect our rights or protect of an innovative idea.


University Provost Dr. Neelima Jerath said that Many times students loose their innovative ideas , designs, creativity or an invention due to lack of proper guidance. The university will help and guide them for patent and copy right etc. She informed that we have already established a patent information center in the university, which will guide the students of different faculties about how they can get their innovation or new ideas registered.



Vice chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh informed that under Professional Competency Test (PCT) the university is going to include Intellectual Property Right (IPR) subject to its curriculum which will be compulsory in all the courses from the academic session 2017-18.This will extend the innovation vision of the university to the highest.



During the programme a special talk was arranged to give detailed information about the basics of Intellectual Property Rights. A quiz contest on the IPR was also organised in which students of different departments like agriculture, life sciences, engineering, art and craft, aviation and others participated. The students who are working on different projects and those who have developed some new techniques were introduced to the audience. Later, these students and winners of quiz contest were honoured. Dr. Surjeet Patheja, Dr. H. K. Sidhu, HoD’s of different departments were also present on the occasion.

National Seminar On Climate Change And Sustainable Agriculture Held At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Faculty of Engineering and Technology organised a one day National Seminar on 'Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture: National and Regional Scenario’. The seminar was mainly sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the minor sponsor was Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST). The Seminar was focused on various issues of climate change, how it influences agriculture and various mitigating policies. Eminent Scientists,

 

 Educationists, Scholars, Policymakers, Teachers and a large number of students from different parts of the country took part in it.University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh presided over the inaugural session.  Speaking on the occasion, he said that the change in climate is a hot topic and we all have to do something in this regard. Giving more details Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Neelima Jerath said that Mr. Sanjay Ghosh from NABARD was the chief guest on this occasion, who encouraged all present to take each and every step to save our environment. Dr. Ram Bhoojh from UNESCO graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr S. K. Saxena from Punjab State Council of Science and Technology appealed the farmers not to burn wheat and paddy stubble , it produces harmful gases which are extremely harmful for health and environment. The experts also briefed on the Projects taken up by India (in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh) under Green Climate Fund and National Adaption Fund for Climate Change.



Delegates from 8 States like Punjab, H.P., M.P , U.P.  , Uttrakhand, J&K ,Delhi and UT’s were also present and experts from Punjab University ChandÄ«garh, Punjabi University, Patiala , Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana ,Guru Nanak Dev University , Amritsar and PGI etc. also shared their views in the seminar. Five  technical sessions were organised on various themes: Climate change and sustainable  Agriculture: National  and Regional Scenario, Climate change, Meteorology and Agriculture, Biodiversity and Renewable Energy, Industry ,Climate change and Health, Economy, Business and science. The seminar was also attended by progressive farmers of Fatehgarh Sahib.



During the seminar, as many as 20 invited lectures were delivered by renowned scholars and environmental experts. More than 30 oral and poster presentations were made by research scholars, teachers and students hailing from different parts of the country. At the end of the seminar Pro Chancellor, Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Vice-Chancellor Dr.Virinder Singh thanked all the guests and expressed pleasure at the overwhelming response to the seminar and hoped that it will prove quite useful for the students, faculty members and policymakers. A Programme Dedicated To National Science Day Held At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Organised a Technical cum Educational Programme in Connection with National Science Day. The Event was Jointly Arranged by Faculty of Engineering and Technology and Department of Life Sciences. A large number of students from different classes actively participated in it and showcased their talent.



Giving details of the event, university Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Neelima Jerath stated that this time the theme of the event was ‘Science and Technology for the Disables’. Eminent scholars and teachers shared their research work and project details with the students. 
While interacting with the students Dr. Rupinder Tiwari (Punjab University, Chandigarh) said that the main objective of any invention of the scientists is to serve the society and lead it on to the path of progress. He encouraged the students to develop or invent something new that may be helpful to the disables. In the beginning of these programs Dr. S. Dutta Gupta (Former Vice Chancellor, Vishav Bharati University) shared his views about the contribution of Indian Scientists in different fields and challenges of future



 Students exhibited their projects in different competition and showed their skills as individual and in team projects as well. The experts appreciated their innovative ideas and guided them how they can improve. During the technical cum interaction sessions, lectures were delivered by experts and PPT, Oral and Poster presentations were made by research scholars, teachers and students. Students asked relevant questions on concerned topic which the learned speakers answered to their entire satisfaction. The students said the views expressed by the experts have encouraged them to learn maximum.



At the end of the event, University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur thanked all the guests and expressed pleasure at the overwhelming response to the programme and said that it will prove quite useful for the students and faculty members. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh and Vice President Er. Sandeep Singh felicitated the staff and students and hoped that the programme will enhance their practical knowledge of this field. Dr. Mintoo Tyagi, Dr. Narinder Kaur, Dr. Archana Tomar and staff members from different departments were also present on the occasion.

Future Belongs To The Youth : Varun Gandhi

Future belongs to India’s Youth as we have maximum young population of the world who are energetic and have the potential to become a super power in the near future, said Mr. Varun Gandhi, Member Parliament. He was interacting with the students and staff on the topic 'Rashtriya Nav Nirman Ke Liye Nayi Soch' at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh.



Addressing the mammoth gathering present in the auditorium (on the occasion), Mr. Gandhi said that the youth are the backbone of the country, they have full potential to take our country to the pinnacle on the world Canvas and they can keep up this stage till eternity . He motivated the students to think big, dream big and achieve big.


Mr. Gandhi further asserted that the Youth should focus not only on fulfilling their personal dreams but should also work for the betterment of the society and the development of the nation. He also gave some examples of the young entrepreneurs who have proved themselves even in-spite of the lack of basic facilities. He also discussed about young Durgesh, Aniket Deodhar, Aishwarya Prashar  who are regularly working for the development of the society.



Earlier, University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh while welcoming Mr. Varun Gandhi said that it’s a time of innovation, smart technology, world class infrastructure and latest techniques.  The paramount accountability of the students would be to contribute and make our country sound and strong on the world map.



 To create awareness regarding Environmental Protection, Mr. Varun Gandhi planted 'Camphor Plant' at the campus.


University Pro Chancellor Dr. Tajinder thanked Mr. Varun Gandhi for sparing his precious time for the students and hoped that it will prove quite useful for them and the faculty members too. Guest Lecture On Environmental Protection At Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University organised a guest lecture on “Indian Concept of Environmental Education”. The event was organised by Desh Bhagat College of Education in collaboration with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthaan Nyaas, Punjab to make the youth aware for the protection of natural resources. A large number of students and teachers from different classes attended it.



While presiding over the function, university Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh said that our Mother Nature blessed us with unlimited sources for living as a gift, but these natural sources are decreasing day by day with the human fault and ignorance, like many kinds of pollution, wastage of water, not using
 natural energy and lack of awareness. We have to be serious to protect our environment so that next generation may lead a healthy life.



The keynote speaker on this occasion was renowned scholar Mr. Des Raj Sharma (Prinicipal, Sarv Hitkari Vidya Mandir, Talwara and North Zone In-charge Shiksha Sanskriti Utthaan Nyaas), who encouraged the youths to be active to save our environment under Indian custom and manners. He said that we have rich tradition of love with nature from Vedic era. Our students can play a very vital role in this context. They can be good educator for their family and neighbourhood to protect naturesourcesand to save environment.



Dr. Suresh Tandon (President, Shiksha Saskriti Utthaan Nyaas, Punjab and Vice Chairman Punjab School Education Board) enlightened the audience about Vedic Traditions and Education System. He exhorted all present to love and protect nature. Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh shared his views on water and electricity savings. He also talked about the major steps taken by the University for Maximum Use of renewable energy. Dr. Surjeet Patheja informed about the solar equipment being used in the institute/college.



Pro chancellor Dr. Tajinder Kaur, while proposing vote of thanks highly appreciated views of all the guests.  She said that this programe focuses our attention on the protection of nature under Indian concept, which is our most important need today in the context of the fast changing global scenario. Mr. Anubhav Jain graced the occasion as special guest. Directors, Principals and HoD’s of different departments were also present on this occasion. If You Can Dream You Can Achieve : DILBAGH SINGH

A motivational guest lecture was organised at Desh Bhagat University on ‘Paradigm Shift’. Large number of students from different faculties and teaching staff attended it. The programme was arranged by Training and Placement Department of the university. The learned speaker on this occasion was Mr. Dilbagh Singh, Director, Brain Power Services Ltd., Chandigarh.



While addressing the students and faculty members, he exhorted them to set your goals and achieve them and always be clear about the path which you hav to follow to achieve them.  He said that the path towards our goals may not always run smoothly or be easy, but having goals, whether big or small, is part of what makes life good. It gives us a sense of meaning and purpose, points us in the direction we want to go and gets us interested and engaged, all of which are good for our overall happiness. Your passion and commitment are the way to success. So, if you can dream you can achieve your goals, he added. Dbu


The learned speaker said that success always walks with everyone but due to circumstances, lack of vision and management techniques, it seems elusive. In his two hour power packed lecture, he discussed several points and shared his views regarding how to overcome obstacles and how to achieve success. He also advised the students to improve their communication skills and keep themselves updated from time to time

University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur expressed their happiness and appreciated the learned speaker for his valueable thoughts and said that such events are very useful for students and this will help in their multifunctional growth. At the end, Vice Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh proposed vote of thanks and hoped that the lecture will prove quite useful for the students as well as the faculty members.

Guest Lecture on Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Desh Bhagat University

Desh Bhagat University Organised a guest lecture on “Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his Contribution to Indian Culture” in connection with 350th birth anniversary (Parkash Utsav) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. A large number of students and teachers from different faculties attended it. While presiding over the function, university Pro-Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur said that our life without Guru Ji’s teachings will not be worth living at all and we must give it due importance in our life . Guru Ji’s life is an epic of sacrifices and he sacrificed his everything including his father, mother and children to uphold the human dignity and the high values of life.  for the sake of our society.


The keynote speaker on this occasion was renowned scholar Dr. H. S. Bedi (Former Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar), who said, ‘Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji was a Spiritual Master, A warrior, A Poet and A Philosopher’. He has good command & knowledge of more than 7 Indian languages. He highlighted the importance of Guru Ji’s teachings, his contribution to society and literature. By forming of Khalsa he creates a warrior community who is always ready to protect down trodden, women, humanity, our country and more over animals. His teachings are like a torch, which always shows us path whenever we are in darkness or in catastrophe. Speaking about his literary and music work he said his literary work is highly inspiring, motivated and educative.

Dr. Ruby Dhalla, Ex MP, Canada graced the occasion as Chief Guest. While speaking on the occasion she exhorted the students to follow the path shown by our Guru Sahibans. She encouraged the students to adopt positive attitude in every field of life. She said that if you have positive approach, then no one can harm you and you will get what you deserve. She also shared her experiences about her journey to Canadian parliament.

Vice chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh, while proposing vote of thanks highly appreciated views of both the guests.  He said that this programe focuses our attention on the teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, which is our most important need today in the context of the fast changing global scenario. Directors and HoD’s of different faculties were also present on this occasion. They expressed the hope that it will prove quite useful for the students and staff members.
