NDRF Team Visited In Best University In Punjab At Desh Bhagat University

A team from 7th battalion of National Disaster Response Force headed by Inspector Ram Lal visited Desh Bhagat University in best university in Punjab and in top universities in India for the disaster management awareness camp. Dr. Surjeet Pathjha welcomed Inspector Ram Lal, Sub Inspector Gurpreet Singh, Sub Inspector Sushil Kumar and all NDRF team members. First of all Inspector Ram Lal gave a brief introduction of National Disaster Response Force to students. He said that NDRF consists of 12 battalions. These 12 battalions are located at 12 different locations in the country based on the vulnerability profile of the country to cut down the response time for their deployment at disaster site. Each Battalion have 18 self contained search specialist and rescue teams of 45 personnel each including engineers, technicians, electricians, dog squads and medical/ paramedics. The total strength of each battalion is 1149 personnel. All the 12 battalions have been equipped and trained to respond natural as well as man-made disasters. Battalions are also trained and equipped for response during chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies. He further provides information to students that NDRF established by the Disaster Management Act in 2005. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) was constituted to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for disaster management. The Disaster Management Act has statutory provisions for constitution of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for the purpose of specialized response to natural and manmade disasters. He also gave a presentation on NDRF which includes basic information of NDRF working, types of Hazards, Disasters, Risk Management and vulnerability.

NDRF team visited DBU by the instruction from DRR( Disaster Risk Reduction) to make the students aware about Natural Hazards and also guide them what to do in critical situation in Disaster. The NDRF team also gave demo of various needful actions that are performed during the disaster. They also trained students about first aid techniques.

On this occasion University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh motivated students. He said that we have to always got prepared to help of needy people because millions of people are killed by injuries every year due to lack of timely assistance. Taking immediate action and applying the appropriate techniques, while waiting for professional help, can considerably reduce deaths and injuries, and the impact of disasters. He also encourages students to take part in social development activities.
