Desh Bhagat University has established a Free Legal Aid Centre for the
poor and down trodden sections of the society at University School of
Law. While inaugurating the legal aid centre, Mr. Gurpartap Singh, Chief
Judicial Magistrate, Fatehgarh Sahib said that this centre will provide
yeoman service to the poor and needy people who can't afford the high
fees of lawyers to fight for their rights. He also addressed the
students of law classes and emphasised the importance of the active role
played by judiciary which he described as a pillar of democracy.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Zora Singh Chancellor, Desh Bhagat
University stated that the free Legal Aid Centre has been established
particularly to help economically impoverished sections of the society
and women who lack legal aid. He also exhorted the students to work hard
to achieve their targets. Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Shalini Gupta
welcomed the chief guest and said that with the starting of law courses,
the university has fulfilled a big need of the students. She also said
the knowledge of the rights and the duties is must for every citizen.
Among others, University Registrar, Dr. Virinder Singh, Director School
of Law Dr. S.S. Saluja, Director Nidhi Gupta, faculty members and a
large number of students were present on this occasion.
