Tech Fest ‘carpediem -2014’ Begins At Desh Bhagat University Mandi Gobindgarh

A two-day Technical Fest ‘CARPEDIEM-2014’ today began at the newly constructed auditorium at Desh Bhagat University with great pomp and show. Being organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the grand event was inaugurated by University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed the hope that the students participating in various events will not only showcase their skills but also exchange their new plans and discoveries. While welcoming all the guests and the participating teams, Pro Chancellor Tejinder Kaur conveyed her best wishes to the participants and said that the main objective of this event is to motivate the students for innovations. Mr. Rajesh Bansal, General Manager, BSNL, Patiala who was the Guest of Honour on the occasion, appreciated the initiative of the University for providing a wonderful platform to the students getting higher education in technical, management and other professional courses to exhibit their talents and skills in a competitive spirit. Giving more details of the programme, University Vice Chancellor Dr. Shalini Gupta said that it is an annual event of the university in which students from Punjab, Harayna, Himachal Pardesh and other states participate in technical, non technical and cultural events. The competitions held on the first day included:  Technical - Robowar, Full Throttle, Line Follower Robot, Project Exhibition, Circuit Designing. Non-Technical -Group Discussion, Debate, English Vocabulary Test. Cultural Activities- Comedy, skit, Bhangra, Giddha, Singing, Dance, Rangoli and Mehndi etc. The main attractions of the first day were flying competition of Quadcopter and RC Air Craft designed by the students themselves. All the winners of the competitions were awarded certificates and cash prizes.  Faculty of Engineering and Technology Director Dr. Pardeep Singh Cheema thanked all the guests and told the audience that on the second and final day of the Tech Fest, famous Punjabi Signers, Lakhwinder Wadali, Jatinder Randhawa and Miss Neha will give their performance and add to the thrill of the event.  Registrar Dr. Virinder Singh, Controller of Examinations Dr. Inderjit Singh Sethi, Directors of the various university faculties, teachers of different institutions and large number of students were present on this occasion.
