Desh Bhagat University Organises Safety Awareness Drive

Desh Bhagat University organised an awareness drive in connection with the "Road Safety". The drive was conducted by Department of NSS to make the students and all present aware about traffic rules and road safety. University Vice Chancellor Dr. Shalini Gupta while speaking on the occasion said that it is the duty of every citizen to follow road safety rules while driving any vehicle so that precious human lives can be saved. She further said that NSS Volunteers of the university are ready to cooperate with the police in making the public aware of traffic rules and the university will honour those students who distinguish themselves in this field. In a special message, University Chancellor, Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Tejinder Kaur exhorted the students to observe the traffic rules under all circumstances saying that human life is very precious and if once lost, it cannot be got back.   It was agreed unanimously by the students, faculty and staff of Desh Bhagat University to undergo First Aid Training, seek knowledge of road symbols and participate as traffic volunteers with traffic police.   Registrar Dr. Virinder Singh, while apprising the audience about the traffic rules said that while driving two wheelers, the people must wear helmets and while driving cars, the seat belts must be used.  Dr. I. S. Sethi educated the students about the various traffic signs and advised them to follow these signs while driving any vehicle. He said that while driving any vehicle, the mobile phones should be switched off and drunken driving should be a taboo. Pamphlets containing traffic education were also distributed among the audience.   While answering to the questions of the students, university officials suggested that traffic education should be made a part of the syllabi right from the primary level so that the students learn to observe the traffic rules spontaneously. It was emphasised that the problem of traffic congestion was a serious problem and it needs to be solved on priority basis. It was also remarked that the driving licenses should be issued only after proper screening and training of the applicants.
