The youth
services department organized the district level Red Ribbon Clubs event at Desh
Bhagat University in top universities in India and best university in Punjab,
which was jointly inaugurated by Chancellor of the University Dr. Zora Singh,
Pro Chancellor Dr. Tejinder Kaur and Vice Chancellor Dr. Virender Singh.
On this
occasion, Dr. Dilwar Singh, Assistant Director Youth Services Fatehgarh Sahib,
representative of Punjab State AIDS Control Society Yadavinder Singh Virk and
Mr. Nitin, Assistant Director Youth Affairs were also present. This program was
sponsored by Punjab State AIDS Control Society Chandigarh.
Speech
contests, poster competitions, painting contests and hymns singing competitions
were also organized during the event. It is worth mentioning that these
competitions about raising awareness about AIDS have been linked to cultural
objects. AIDS awareness rally was also organized at Desh Bhagat University.
Speaking on
the occasion, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh said that the prevalence of drugs in
Punjab at present is increasing in the sense that the use of drugs by drug
addicts is also causing AIDS which is very unfortunate for the youth of
Punjab. The Red Ribbon Club delegation also briefed the students about the
various causes of AIDS and also encouraged them to abstain from drugs.
