On this occasion Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh (Professor of Urology and Transplant Surgery, DMC&H, Ludhiana) was the Chief Guest, who said that Organ donation is a holy/pious act and by donating organs one can save many precious lives. In several cases patients with critical condition lose their lives in the lack of organ transplantation. As we know that organ or tissue donation is not so popular in our country. There is an urgent need to increase public awareness regarding organ donation and greater effort must be taken to dispel taboos regarding the same. He encouraged all present to promote organ donation and make others aware about it. He highly appreciated the initiative taken by Desh Bhagat University.

While welcoming Dr. Aulakh, Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh said that Desh Bhagat University has taken major step to promote organ donation. We have established an Organ Donation Cell in collaboration with National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, New Delhi.  Dr. Zora Singh said that we are proud that Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh is honorary advisor of this cell, as he is a big name in the organ donation & its awareness.

We want to make the people aware about it and we will do all best possible to promote voluntary organ donation. One dying person can give donation of its organs/tissues to dozens of needy patients & can give them a new life, Dr. Singh added.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pooja Gulati, HoD, College of Pharmacy said that organ donation is a voluntary act but mindset of our society is not friendly with it. Our students will also encourage the people about it and we will arrange awareness camps in villages too for this purpose.
