Desh Bhagat University Organises Education Trip For Students to Kullu

Desh Bhagat University Department of Fashion and Technology arranged an educational cum industrial tour to Kullu for the students of B.Sc. (FT) and M.Sc. (FT) classes. While giving details, university Pro-Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur said that students accompanied by their teachers, Vishal Sharma, Bharat and Dimple visited the famous and important places of Kullu. The students were taken to the manufacturing houses that are producing hand-made Kullu Shawls.

The craftsmen told the students in details from designing to weaving of the world famous Kullu Shawls and also informed the different types of wool like Angora, Merino and Sheep wool in which they are likely to make the Shawls. They added that
these different kinds of wool are sometime used collectively to make more varieties. They informed them that these Shawls are world famous for their simple elegant designs and for fine woolen fabric & manufacturing quality. Students also practiced weaving of shawl on the looms.

 Next day students visited the Metal Craft Industry and took a close look of the working of the craftsmen there. The skilled metal craftsman of Kullu produces beautiful masks, chariots and palanquins of the Gods and Godesses, Traditional ornaments, local household articles and the traditional musical instruments in brass, silver and copper. The metal craft of Kullu depicts the local flora and fauna in their designs.  The craftsman taught the students about how to sketch a metal product with different tools like, nail, Hammer and cutter etc. Students admitted that the whole trip was very educative and they have learnt so many new things there.

University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Tejinder Kaur appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Fashion and Technology and said that the students should get maximum industrial exposure to become time and market relevant. Vice- Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that such educational trips are very useful in enhancing the knowledge of the students.
