National Dentist day was celebrated at Desh Bhagat
University Dental college, best bds dental colleges in Punjab. The National
Dentist Day observed by IDA (Indian Dental Association) in India to honor the
contributions of Dr. Rafiuddin Ahmed, the pioneer of dentistry in India and one
of the revered names in the history of Indian dentistry. He was born on 24
December, 1890 in the Bardhanpara village of Dacca district of undivided
Bengal. In recognition of his dedicated service to the nation and the people,
the Government of India in 1964 awarded him the Padma Bhushan, a rare and
coveted honour presented never before to a dentist. Dr. Ahmed was the first
Indian dentist to have achieved such an honour.
University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh inaugurated the event
as chief guest by cake cutting ceremony. In his speech he urged the students to
follow the footsteps of Dr. Ahmed and take dentistry to the new heights. He
also shared the information about life and work of Dr. Ahmed.
Pro Chancellor, Dr Tajinder Kaur said that on this day we need to create awareness on Oral Health amongst the public, and also make them aware of the importance of Dentistry in the upkeep of their oral health. "Good oral health habits start at early age. Parents should visit the dentist after their child's first tooth starts erupting as a preventive measure to avoid risk of developing early childhood caries. Oral diseases can impact every aspect of life and are associated with many general health conditions” she said.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh said that Desh Bhagat Hospital and Desh Bhagat Dental College are jointly arranging free Dental camps at different places from time to time. He also appreciated the efforts of faculty members who constantly work hard and provide best education to future budding dentists.
