“Success does not lie in results, but in efforts. Being the best is not so important, doing the best is all that matters,” said S. Gian Singh (Deputy Commandant, BSF (Retd.). He was the Chief Guest on the final day of North Zone Intervarsity Football Tournament (Women) being held at Desh Bhagat University, best university in Punjab (2nd Rank - NIRF ranking, MHRD, Govt. of India)
He also encouraged all the players to be passionate about their game, improve it with practice and promote sports in every possible way. A total of 20 teams from different universities from all over India participated in the annual tournament of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Virinder Singh presided over the Prize Distribution function. They appreciated all the teams for their excellent performance.
The final matches of the tournament were particularly thrilling and breath-taking and players were struggling hard for even a single point. In the final, Panjab University beat Guru Nanak Dev University and lifted the trophy. The result of the tournament was as under:
1. Panjab University, Chandigarh (First Position) Points-7
2. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (Second Position) Points-5
3. Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar (Third Position) Points-4
4. Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (Fourth Position) Points-2
Lovepreet Kaur (GNDU) was declared best player while Kiran Kundu (Panjab University) was adjudged the best scorer of the tournament, both were awarded trophy and Toss Football.
The Tournament was a source of great education and entertainment for the students and staff of different universities.
All the players and coaches of the teams admired the arrangements made by the host university. Dr. Balwinder Singh (Coach, Punjab University) and Pardeep Kumar (Coach, GNDU) were especially honoured on the occasion.
The officials of sponsored companies and the members of Football official committee sent by AIU were also honoured for their services during the tourney.
This event was organised under the supervision of Deputy Director (Sports) and Coach Nandan Singh. Mr. Sarabjeet Singh from Railways was the match commissioner of the tournament.
