A PROGRAMME ON BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO AT DESH BHAGAT UNIVERSITY

     Desh Bhagat University in-collaboration with District Child Protection Unit , Fatehgarh Sahib and Hara Punjab Khara Samaj organised a Programme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’. The programme was inaugurated by University Pro Chancellor, Ms. Tajinder Kaur, who is also the CEO of Hara Punjab Khara Samaj, an NGO working for social causes and environmental protection. She appealed to all present to come forward to put an end to the evil of female foeticide so that the gender gap can be eliminated. She said that under the university ‘Shakti’ Scholarship Scheme girl students are getting the benefit of 50% concession in total tuition fee.

Speaking on the occasion Child Protection Officer (Legal) cum Probation Officer , District Fatehgarh Sahib Mrs. Saru Sharma said that education for all is essential to end such evils. What Women have done should be shown to the world and they should be honoured for it. She emphasized that all the parents should provide higher education to their girls so that they can make their contribution in the progress of the country by standing on their own feet. In this way, the attitude of the people towards girls can be changed and the discrimination against them can be stopped.
Social worker Mrs. Harpreet Kaur presented her views on the topic of social equality and girl education. She encouraged the youngsters about their roles in bringing a change in the society and motivated them to stop all kind of violence against females to build a healthy society.
A cultural function was also organised, in which girl students performed items like Bhangra, Manipuri Dance, a Play delivering the message to Save Girl Child and recital of poems.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Varinder Singh thanked the whole team for sharing his valuable views with the students and said that it will prove a blessing for them. District Child Protection Unit members consisted of Ms. Jaswinder Kaur, Gagandeep Singh, Anil Kumar and Rupinder Kaur were also present on this occasion.
