Desh Bhagat University Celebrates World Environment Day

Desh Bhagat University in collaboration with Desh Bhagat Radio 107.8 FM (Aap Ki Aawaz) and Hara Punjab Khara Samaj (an NGO working for environmental protection) celebrated World Environment Day with full enthusiasm. The day commenced with Tree Plantation Drive at Chandigarh and in all the institutes of Desh Bhagat United. Students and staff members participated in this drive with full interest. University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh, Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur and Mr. Dharminder Sharma from Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation, Punjab graced the occasion by planting saplings. Mr. Sharma appreciated the initiative and efforts being taken by Desh Bhagat University and Hara Punjab Khara Samaj for saving the environment. He contributed to the drive by gifting 100 plants and assured to give full cooperation in future too. Present on the occasion Mr. M. L. Vohra, (Convener, Consumer Association, Chandigarh) and Ms. Nidhi Sharma (Desh Bhagt Radio) expressed the views that this drive will prove a blessing for the society. In the university campus, students along with teachers and staff members planted saplings. Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro Chancellor Ms. Tajinder Kaur encouraged them to grow and protect maximum number of trees saying, “By planting trees we return to a more natural, less artificial environment and natural harmony is restored even to the urban environment”. While calling upon the people to give full co-operation in this kind of plantation drives, emphasized that all educational and social organizations must involve themselves in such drives to preserve our environment and check the ever increasing pollution problem.
