In the best university in Punjab and in the top universities in India, Desh Bhagat University organized 18th Punjab Science Congress on the theme "Innovative Trends of Science & Technology in Current Scenario” in collaboration with Punjab Academy of Sciences. A large number of Scientists, Research Scholars, Teachers, Students and representatives of Industry from all over Punjab and some other states participated in this three-day long event.
University Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Tejinder Kaur inaugurated the final day events. While speaking on the occasion, they appreciated the talent of young scientists and insisted that Smart Techniques, Smart Vision and Smart Ideas of our young scientists can take our country to new heights in every field of life.
On this occasion, Dr. K.K Raina, (Vice-Chancellor, Dehradun University of Technology, Dehradun) was the chief guest. He asserted that the objective of scientific research should be the betterment of society, not to harm anybody. According to him, the proper use of science can solve all our problems and make our life very easy, comfortable and fruitful.
Prof. Jai Roop Singh (Ex-Vice Chancellor of Central University, Bathinda and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar) appreciated the models and posters displayed by the research scholars and scientists. Speaking on the occasion Dr. R.L.Mittal, (Principal, Medical College, Patiala ) emphasized the importance of science in everyday life and exhorted the students to study science subjects with deep interest. The selected projects in all five categories were honored with special awards. The abstracts of all the research papers presented during the congress were published by the university in the form of a book titled "Innovative Trends of Science & Technology in Current Scenario”. On this occasion, Ms. Harjeevan Kaur, Mr. Sandeep Singh, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Ms. Nitiya K. Dogra, and Dr. Balwinder Raj were honored with Young Scientist Awards.
During the valedictory function, Dr. S.S. Gosal, (President, Punjab Academy of Sciences) and Tarlok Singh (Secretary) stated that the objective of this event was to encourage the students to opt for science studies and take the country ahead in the field of science and technology.
While giving more details, University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shalini Gupta and Pro vice-chancellor Dr. Shantnu Chatterjee informed that during these three days, participants presented their projects and research work in different areas. During this event, Prof. Tarlochan Singh Thind Prof. Emeritus, PAU Ludhiana, Dr. (Mrs.) Gurinderjit Randhawa (Principal Scientist, Genomic Resources Division, New Delhi), Prof. M.I.S Saggoo ( Dean Research, Punjabi University Patiala), Dr. P.S. Soni (Ex-Principal, Govt. College, Ropar), Dr. Nathu Ram Dhaliwal (Chemistry Dept., Punjabi University, Patiala), Prof. Kewal Krishan (HoD, Dept. of Pharmacy, Punjabi University, Patiala), Dr. Manoj Kumar ( Physics Department, Thapar University , Patiala), Dr. Rajan Gaur ( Dept. of Anthropology Punjab University , Chandigarh) and Dr. Baldev Kumar (Dept. of Chemistry, Punjabi University, Patiala) also shared their views and appreciated the contribution made by participants. Registrar Dr. Virinder Singh expressed that the event will prove quite useful for the students, particularly young scientists and the teachers as well. The students were enthusiastic to participate in this program and expressed their satisfaction for attaining fresh knowledge about new trends in technology. In the end, Organising Secretary of the event and Director Academic Dr. Rajesh Goyal thanked all the guests.
